A few years ago, I was struck by the sight of an incredible lichen growth on trees in the mountains of southern Appalachia. Lichens are not parasitical like fungus. They are more of a signal that the tree cover is thin for this region now. I often return to demi-goddesses as allegories for the environment. My "Euridyce" in the pastels section is such a work, one of my favorites. The model is the exquisite Elizabeth Mira.
